The ones from soviet era are the best. New ones post 1990's are a bit too salty and they added some sulfites so it doesn't turn bad which fucks up the taste a bit.
You can still find perfectly edible ones from the soviet era and they're delicious, but hard to come by.
I found a guy from Omsk that sells them for just 50 bucks on the russian webs. I had to pay through a mexican intermediary in ether to avoid sanctions lol. They send it through poland with chink post and it arrives surprisingly fast. They even label it like socks or something equally asinine so it doesn't get blocked in customs. Otherwise they would confiscate it for being "expired" which is bullshit. I'd wager 5k they will be perfectly edible in 100 years.
Otherwise the chink ones come cheaper but the quality is lackluster. It's hard to prepare them properly because you can't remove the bladder you have to slowly cook it so the sour taste is lessened but not entirely removed otherwise you lose the flavor. I've found this brand is the most consistently okayish.
