Anon, you have my deepest gratitude. Using your example I was able to figure my way around a) tarkov's textures and b) GIMP. I have successfully established a workflow for getting these things done properly. And regarding .thm files...you blew my mind with that. Thank you for the suggestions, but I really don't have the baseline understanding required to use these sorts of tools. And, the source for normal maps is already provided, I just didn't know how to rework them into a usable state.
