The USA was founded by Christians who overthrew the government. Sometimes it is truly moral to overthrow tyrants, it is in the Scripture.

In fact, it was preaching that was behind the Revolution itself as a popular movement. Good Christian men fought tyranny with full faith in God and the righteousness of their deeds.

It was a time of secularism as well due to the Enlightenment. The secularists were generally loyalists, the elite. Religion and revolution is for the poor and oppressed.

Many clergy not only preached rebellion but participated in the revolutionary army.
