I grew up playing everything with friends and family and not a single one of us ever brought up console war stuff. We talked about videogames and how awesome they were. We'd borrow each other's consoles if my friend wanted to play DBZ Budokai and I wanted to play Majora's Mask. I was 16 when I learned console war shit was an actual thing, and I still don't understand it.
