Chimps and Gorillas have canines, too. I think humanity was the branch off hominid that decided to continue eating meat and grew more intelligent because of it which developed our need to make hunting tools and further create fires.

Eating meat has a lot of benefits and DOUBLY so when it's cooked(probably some proto-human started eating charred corpses after a forest fire) as it's easily digestible and energy efficient, making us grow our big brains.
