>>Blaming a character when its the fault of the editors and writers portraying them a certain way
if a character is poorly-written for long enough they just become a poorly-written character. Yeah, it's not EBONY DARK'NESS DEMENTIA RAVENWAY's fault that she was written as the protagonist of My Immortal, but she WAS and it's completely fair for people to get burnt out/fatigued/simply sick of a character who has been overexposed with bad writing for such a sustained period of time that it's impossible to separate the bad writing from their characterization.
I like Ultimate MJ in the current Ultimate Universe. I do not like the current MJ in 616, and even if she breaks up with Paul for good, it would need an EXTREMELY contrived retcon on the level of "actually everything the last 20 years was just one big Mysterio-induced hallucination" or Franklin Richards feeling bad for spidey and reality warping it all to have never happened to fix.
it's a bit silly to say "blame the writer, not the character!" when a character only exists in the context of what a writer gives them. A badly written character is just a bad character. It's not like with Actors where there is an actual real person performing/interpreting the script they're given, so you can have great actors handed a terrible script, and bad actors given a great one. A character IS their script. There is no separation between badly-written MJ and bad-character-MJ the way there is "Harrison Ford as Ross in Brave New World" vs "Harrison Ford as Deckard in Blade Runner", we know that Harrison Ford is a good actor even when given a dogshit script because we have decades of proof that he CAN do well.

There is no Mary-Jane Watson actress reading the lines of the script given to her by Zeb Wells and grimacing at how dogshit they are but soldiering on because she's a professional. There's just MJ, and she's been badly written for so long she has become a badly written character in 616.
