Here in Ireland they're mostly known for their music rather than politics, due to rapping in Irish (Gaeilge)
The Irish Language is now seen as cool in popular culture, they were pretty instrumental in making that happen (not quite single-handedly but not far off). When I was young no one gave a shit about it, now everyone is enthusiastic about our own language again.
One bit that might not resonate with foreign audiences in their movie is the DJ Provai's gf character (not sure if real) who represents the standard, government-approved Irish-language activism, largely run by teachers and pretty boring/slow. Kneecap by comparison got banned from the only Gaeilge-only radio station for their lyrical content, so it was the first time in the history of the state that something in Irish was outside government control. So that character represents the 'old guard' of language activism, who are a bit outmoded now
Actually came across a group of young knackers (chavs) in tracksuits blaring H.O.O.D on the street yesterday, never thought I'd hear a Gaeilge song in that context
