I've been saying this for a while now. if any US president implements a new amnesty program, it will be trump. he has the political capital to get away with it, and he likely won't run for another term -- which means that he can really get away with it and leave the rest of the Republicans scrambling to fix the political fall-out among the anti immigration hawks.
the immigration crackdowns are largely theater and likely some kind of practice for real widespread unrest. if you go by the sheer desire to actually deport people, he could have done it quietly, like Obama did. the way it's going now, I'm not sure trump will beat Obama's deportation record, and I don't think he even wants to do that. he's a showman.
the immigration raids and militarized show of force are only necessary if this is some kind of practice for crowd control during the next pandemic lockdowns, a severe economic downturn, the lead-up to a controversial war the US is involved in, or other types of political turmoil/civil unrest. it is all but certain that the FBI and DHS are data mining the hell put of leftist protesters who show up to anti ICE demonstrations. they're mapping out pockets of resistance. it's like the Jade Helm 15 exercise has gone live.
