There is literally no one well-versed in classical music who doesn't consider Beethoven to be among the 3-5 preeminent geniuses in the art. I hope you aren't one of those avant-teens who listens only to experimental composers like Xenakis and Varese and, without actually being familiar with music theory or musicology, thinks Beethoven and Mozart are "boring"
If you actually think Burzum is surface-level then your perspective is warped from spending more time clout-chasing in places like /mu/ than actually listening to music. The surface level is the black album and Ozzfest. And all the diehards I know agree that bands like Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, early Metallica/Megadeth, and Morbid Angel are geniuses and their good albums are classics. Even the guys who can name their top 500 albums in any of those subgenres still have mostly classics in their top 10. They listen to the deeper shit because they want more, not because it's better
