AFD came out of the German federal election as the largest individual party, but have no place in the government; it's instead comprised of a 3-way coalition. In the Netherlands, PVV were the largest individual party, but fell short of a majority, and so ended up in an insane 4-way coalition (which is now breaking down), with an Independent minister as PM
Hell, we've seen it in micro after the council elections this year. Reform were the single largest party in Cornwall (going from 0/87 seats to 28/87), but no overall majority, so Lib Dems immediately declared they'd never work with Reform and made a behind-closed-doors pact with a bunch of Independents
