I always viewed those comments more playfully, like how Rachnee acts when she tries to intimidate "Darling" because she's misanthropic and wants to use him to prove a point about how humans are just hypocritical assholes only interested in what they think is human enough for them, only for the guy to immediately reply that he actually thinks her spider legs are hot ("quite lovely") because he turned out to have a leg fetish it's still one of the funniest parts of the series to me the way he just casually admits to it
