Well when you're using modern animation techniques, often I see something like a parody of a 80s cartoon that doesn't capture the visuals of what cel animation looked like at that time, it all still looks very digital and choppy. Even though I think some of the visual stood out a little, Trigger seemed to really understand the way that era of western animation looked. Ironically Trigger made a intro to a fake 1980s series for a toy line in Toy Story, it's just modern Trigger animation. I guess that's what Pixar wanted.
