I actually like him quite a bit, though he's not the type I would like, "waifu". I really appreciate him for being different from the norm for these games and enjoy his dialogue. But I think women who play these probably usually want something traditionally cuter. Another female friend joked that he's there to pander to homos, though who knows how true that actually is.
