How about us little guys paying like $10/month in exchange for just 3GB of data? That amounts to about 100MB per day so I don't mind if 2MB PNGs became 1 MB webp files desu. In fact I'd really appreciate it.

Also GIF is straight up ass being limited to 256 colors. Webp would be a huge leap from that limitation.
