Pride is a grift and here's why.
The whole point is visibility, and the point of visibility is to message. The message is "there is a community that will accept you and we will fight together for that acceptance". Which probably isnt true, since in fact most gays exclude most other gays. And its not directed at people comfortable with living as heterosexuals of course. And its not directed at gays either, since they are already commited. To be sure, it targets their wallets for the streetside marketers, and the overt sexuality is meant to play on peoples hopes of finding someone to sex with.
Instead, the target is people who are struggling with a heterosexual identity or life plan. Not surprisingly, these are usually troubled people with social or personal issues, which is why they look like freak shows, because thats who its meant to attract. These of course are emotionally vulnerable, usually young people but also people who have botched their lives in middle age and have begun to intellectualize their loneliness through fetishes.
So by messaging that there is a community (that isnt really there and will ditch them the moment they are deemed unfuckable), they think they can apply a new narrative to their life that will end their loneliness or confusion. Again, these are mostly young people who are mentally vulnerable, and it shows. And that narrative, of course, is "I am" something that merges a fetish with a solution.
So once they decide to "come out" and declare this fringe identity, they are basically permanently exiling themselves from normal society and can never unring that bell. Now they have no one but this "community" and are left assuming in faith that this is some sort of solution, and are forced to become zealots about it, doubling down on their self exile.
These are the people the movement/grift rely upon to be present to message the next generation of vulnerable young people, thus growing and maintaining the group...
