Posted in a previous Nemona thread, but I think the appeal of Nemona is that she takes the concept of a friendly rivalry to its logical conclusion and turns it on its head. Her love of battles naturally makes her strong to the point where she’s the strongest trainer in the school. Yet, she doesn't use her strength to put others down, but she isn't even all that interested in being the being the best. She just wants people to battle with so she tries to bring others up to her level, but she’s just too intense for most other students to handle.

Also, she almost seems to have been intended to be a countpart to Kieran, though its hard notice because they only have one scene together.
