Did I sleep on this series? I watched the first episode and felt like I’d already seen something like it a hundred times before. Anyway, I only watched a few series this season:
>Apocalypse Hotel
My AOTS. A beautiful, touching story that excelled in every genre it tackled. The cinematography is amazing.
>Ninja to Koroshiya no Futarigurashi
My second favorite series this season. A great comedy with a charming cast of characters, filled with references to old shows that never became distracting. If you get them, great; if you don’t, the show is still fun. I hope it gets a second season or some extra episodes.
>Rock wa Lady no Tashinami Deshite
A show that I liked more on paper than in practice. I love the idea of this group of women who manage to express themselves and be their true selves through music, and how the music becomes a powerful conduit of communication that transcends words (hence why they play instrumental music). But everything about it is just dull. For a show that's all about music, I can't believe how exceptionally pedestrian and forgettable the soundtrack is.
>Mono
A show that doesn’t have an identity of its own. I expected Afro to give photography the same treatment it gave to camping, but the series abandoned the entire club that it spent two episodes building up, in favor of being just a mediocre alternative to Yuru Camp, without the elements that made that show entertaining in the first place.
>Witch Watch
The characters are so likable that it manages to be entertaining despite the mediocre animation. It’s the perfect Sunday anime.
