Jesus told to Peter, on the night of the last supper, that He was going to wash all of the disciples feet. And Peter said No Lord, you will never wash my feet! Because he thought was slave work beneath Jesus Christ, and Christ said If you do not let me wash your feet you have no part with me.
And so Peter said "Then not just my feet, but my whole body!"
Jesus answered, "Those who have bathed need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean." Later on he says "Now that I have washed your feet, you should wash one another's feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you." This is John 13:1-17

This is why some places do foot washing during communion :)
