Kremlings are interesting.
>Not Nintendo made but they were obviously Nintendo approved.
>Allowed to be used in other Mario games during the Gamecube years, (Mario Parties, Strikers, and Baseball)
>Jungle Beat was definitely Nintendo's own spin on DK, no sign of a mandate yet but I don't even thing the devs used the launch barrels any other icons DKC platformer elements.
>After the NSMB standard took effect and Mario games became more monitored, Kremlings fell off
>Nintendo would still support DK spinoffs at this time and include the Kremlings there. Even designing new Kremlings for the Barrel Blast game.
>Later DK Country got its own series trimming in DKC Returns were just a few elements of the origonal remained and fans had to patiently wait to see what would come back over time.
DK fans must feel pretty cheated. While Returns is a great game, people like the series for how it created a fun world and kept adding and developing it over time. All that got thrown out when Nintendo did their 'series trimming' and we have to wait a couple generations to get things back on track.
