Lorene sighs, as she takes in the scenery around her. The day had truly been perfect. Huddling together during a particularly tense scene in the movie, screaming at the tops of their lungs as the roller-coaster sped down a hill, nibbling on cotton candy as they tried various carnival games at the amusement park, Lorene wouldn’t trade away a single one of those memories for anything.

The three of them lay back on the grassy slope, watching the clouds lazily float by in the burnt orange sky.

“Happy birthday, Ruth.”

Olivia’s voice is subdued, yet satisfied.

“…thanks guys…” Ruth is staring at the sky too. “i hope we all stay friends forever…”

“…We will. I’ll make sure of it.” Lorene’s response is firm.

The three of them lay in silence for a long while, before Olivia sits up. “Alright. …Lorene. What’s going on?”

Lorene remains quiet, as Ruth looks back and forth between the two of them, confused.

“Lorene. We’re your friends, you know. You can talk to us about anything. Maybe we’ll be able to help.”
