posting this here because it's the closest general i can think of. can someone explain this to me? so the fox spirit in act 3 is referred to as male. the scholar dude that saved him from the trap brings him home and to thank him the fox gives him a magical dream where it transforms into a woman and they live a long life together and have kids, which seems to imply that he's offering this to the man. the fox did give him the dream on purpose since it mentions it. so then why the hell did he give the dream a scary ending and frighten the man if he wanted to become his wife? is it just bad writing?
