>but I also don't like how people pretend CS/HM is literally unplayable without them and that everything is useless except them
Because most people play on Hard due to how Normal is an extreme snooze fest and if you go from playing on Hard to Normal you can see that. I had to for CS's Master Cup because on Hard just going from round 1 to 4 took like an hour only to die to Diaboromon spamming a full wipe party attack twice in a row every time he got turns. Once I dropped to Normal I slept through every fight because everything was only doing like 400 damage out of my 1600+ pool and had 1-2 turns.
>You deal 100 damage to Eaters with basically any non-penetrating attack and they have like 1500+ HP.
>Once you get to Champion level Digimon they're already shrugging off attacks with skills, and then once you reach Ultimate you can have all three focus on that one Digimon and it won't take more than like 40% of its health from the entire volley.
>Bosses have thousands upon thousands of HP, one or two-shot you, and you have bosses that can do nonsense like this if you don't just Accel Boost + Penetrate it.
>The strongest Accel Boosters + Non-Penetrating attacks in the game only do like 1500-2250 damage (and apply an extremely harsh penalty to themselves if they don't have Sistermon's Protect Wave) even if the boss is weak to the typing which you can even see in my webm whereas Lilithmon at neutral damage with Accel Boost can casually hit 2250 and upwards of 3800+ if they're weak to it.
I have a video where I killed this guy in two attacks after I died on this first run because I wasn't expecting a CS-tier boss out of nowhere. HM also has tons and tons of bosses in the last third of the game where not having a penetrating attack is to your detriment. The most basic example is them throwing you into like four Royal Knight battles randomly during the story and the only difference from CS is they're slower and you have Sistermon, that's it.
