Anyone else ever get the feeling Nyarly is the odd one out of the Lovecraft Pantheon. I mean, you've got the Other/Outer Gods who platonic embodiments of scientific, materialistic concepts that discount humanity and sapient life in general. Azathoth is Entropy, Yog-Sothoth is spacetime, Shub-Niggurath is energylife and Nyarlathotep is... what exactly? God of Chaos? Evil? Magic? Doesn't exactly fit with the purview of the others, no?
I'm not complaining or saying he's a bad character or anything, quite the opposite. It just feels for the horror beyond human comprehension he came up with, Lovecraft couldn't, in the end, escape the urge to create a Satan-like character who's the embodiment of a very human evil.
