Let's not forget our friends in Germany, they had some good ideas, very inspiring. Though I don't think der Führer would have wanted us to build a carbon copy of it, there is a lot we can draw from them but ultimately we need to adapt. He could have never have imagined AI and genetic modification, not as more than a mere science fiction novel anyway.
