Yeah it starts getting crazy (cringe) after season two, in fact. IIRC. In season 2 they introduce a new character who only stays for that season. He's eccentric, an egomaniac, but in a good way.

In seasons 4, 5 and 6 they try to do the same and fail. Which is a shame because the guy in seasons 6 is played by Tim Minchin whom I like.
