The thing is, I was rereading the Arabasta arc and I just noticed a few parallels.
Both Wyper and Luffy wanted to defeat God. But they had differing motivations for it.
Luffy had contemporary motivations (i.e he was doing it to protect his friends/signal to Noland below that El Dorado exists). But Wyper? Wyper was rooted in the past. Maybe because he was Kalgara's direct descendant, but he saw himself as the successor who would succeed where Kalgara failed.

Blackbeard isn't the one Roger was waiting for, but he probably believes himself to be.
