Actually, waging is feminine. At the advent of the industrial revolution, factories and sweatshops were staffed by women and children almost exclusively. Men taking on the role of primary worker was seen as an unnatural concession by the capital/banker class. You can see this in other societies, like feudal Japan, where anything to do with labor or money was seen as dirty or at least inferior and usually handled by women.
