I think it's more that the console market has basically hit its limit, 90%(not an exaggerated statistic) of console users basically only play the biggest stuff and don't buy the so-vaunted exclusives that Sony spends hundreds of millions of dollars on. Hell this is what game pass's major push was, lower the barrier of entry to get people to graduate from being a COD/sports/GTA casual into more of a hobbyist gamer playing lots of different games.
Helldivers 2 is Sony's one successful live service title so their only real hope to grow it after it's basically peaked on PC and Playstation is to expand onto the one ecosystem it hasn't been on, which is Xbox.
Even Nintendo's talked about this which is why they've recently made the big multimedia push. People love Mario and Zelda and the like so put out new ways for people to experience that stuff, movies, theme parks, and of course, merchandise. Pokemon didn't become the god of the IP world off Gamefreak's ability to make functional video games. Despite how desperate certain fanboys are to see Nintendo port some stuff onto other platforms(god the mental gymnastics from a Microsoft AI accidentally listing XCX on a games support list for a weekend), it's healthier for the brand longterm to just see about doing movies or something to get people to buy games afterwards, as we saw with the Mario boost post-Mario movie.
