The first all female boarding school was made in 1811.
Fertility rates have fallen for the past 200 years because we've spent the last 200 years elevating women.
Some of it is caused by urbanization. But it's literally just elevating the status of women.
It's only a mystery if you don't like the implications of that.

Iran is the ultimate example of that.

The US slowly fell because it slowly elevated women.
Iran fell fast because they went straight to giving 60% of ther college degrees to women.
