the narrative that the southern states were a bunch of evil slavers is a load of horseshit that was only started by the union to rationalize the war.

the war was started out of the enlightenment principles of self governance and popular sovereignty etc. the same reason dozens of other successful revolutions started across the globe. the rights southerners had to hold slaves weren't even threatened until well into the war

lincoln himself didn't even think blacks were equal to whites in any regard, he only delivered the gettysburg address as a political stunt. the only meaningful thing lincoln actually did was keep the US empire together and suppress resistance to the yankee world order. if the confederacy had rightfully won independence, slavery would have become a non-issue within 20 years anyway and robert e lee would be seen as a hero like george washington

the civil war marked the end of the era where america *actually* stood for freedom and the beginning of our current era where its become any old empire.
