The editor won't have to change the writer's mind here since Rikka becomes antagonistic towards him in chapter 3 and she's not a genki character.
>Haruba-sensei: There was a time when I was thinking about who would be the first heroine to meet Fuutarou in high school. In the very early stages, the plot was that high-schooler Fuutarou met Yotsuba first and then her sisters appeared.
>Was that so!? Why did you change it from Yotsuba to Itsuki?
>Haruba-sensei: Actually, it was changed because of Yotsuba's "Genki Character". At the time, I received a comment from the editorial department saying "She seems like the protagonist's friend, so she doesn't look like the main heroine". Therefore, the heroine's role changed to "a person who opposes Fuutarou" and at the same time Yotsuba was exchanged for Itsuki. Because Yotsuba is a genki-like character, her approval of Fuutarou looks maxed from the beginning, so expectations of her later-on conquest lowering because she didn't look like the heroine was probably part of the reason.
