Part of it is the presentation, one being a pixelated thing on a screen vs. a toy that resembles a robot (granted they do often have LCD eyes).
But also i've never seen a robot pet that had consequences for not playing with/feeding it. It's more like regular roleplay with a toy rather than a simulation.
