Well it's true only for at least first half of XX-century.
After civilians start own huge amount of mobility means then this type of urbanistic development become US suburban nightmare where car is REQUIRED to get some groceries and other kinds of service
btw i still don't get how US public transport such as school buses/regular busses/trams/trolleybuses is working
