I finished the Prose Edda. It was one of those books I was very sure I'd already read because I knew so many of the myths in it, but it turned out I hadn't read it at all. It was interesting and not dry at all. Perhaps the most shocking thing to me was Sturluson claiming descent for his gods/humans-that-became gods (?) from Troy. It's honestly insane and kind of funny, he equated Thor was Hector and made all kinds weird etymological connections that would probably be derided nowadays. Anyway, the stories themselves are fun, it's always interesting to see how people have tried in time to explain the origin of the world, the natural phenomena and so on. The gods themselves feel rather ordinary and I'm not sure whether it's due to whatever Sturluson adapted or whether they really are meant to feel like normal people who happened to gain powers. Intriguing either way. It was also really nice to see the origin of several English words as personified in old Norse deities or concepts.
