Same reason we had an entire booru for it around November: archival purposes, an even easier way to categorize and find content, stuff which /d/ doesn't allow (western toons), and a place safe from jannies (though i have no idea if 8/d/'s jannies are bad, i only know that the rule34/gel/danbooru ones suck).
