I don't even understand what exactly is "gotcha" question supposed to mean in this case. He's a journalist interviewing a poltician arguing that the tax payers should spend another 3 trillion dolars on another pointless war with a country he's clueless about. Population size, ethnic composition, religion, geography and politics are the basic things you should know about any country you want to go to war with. This isn't some random person on the street, this is a senator whose vote on the matter has weight of votes of hundreds of thousands of citizens he's representing and whose money he will spend on the war
