Nah, it's a pretty wide range. There is a convenience store robbery mission, a crack den raid (where a little girl is doped up and pimped out), a shady car dealership ran by eastern euro mobsters, eastern euro mobsters (including union workers) at the docks operating a human trafficking ring, a big hotel that is being attacked by muslim terrorists, another hotel level with terrorists that have planted bombs that need to be disarmed. Certain missions connect to other missions, but generally it's meant to be pretty broad. Game is set in fantasy LA but has pretty much every famous tactical scenario last time I played it.
Oh and there are boobytraps everywhere so you can't play it like a retard rushing, though that would likely get you killed immediately regardless.
That veterans mission was so hard because the dudes all had rifles and would wallbang you if you were loud.
