they didn't. sure, they stepped over some of the easy to solve issues, but the core problem is that the feel of anime does not translate well to live action and it just feels "off" by default.

western anime fans will claim that subtitles are superior to dubbing because most dubs are low effort with miscast voice talent and poor directing. there's some truth to that, but the much bigger issue is that anime dialogue comes off as incredibly unnatural and "cringe" when spoken, but reading the dialogue off subtitles reduces this feeling. live action anime takes this shit to the next level because not only do you hear the unnatural dialogue, but you see all of the unnatural mannerisms and actions

live action anime is an abomination and this one-piece adaptation is proof of that. they gave it about the best shot possible and it still comes off as unnatural and unwatchable unless you're a coping superfan
