I also like hunting varmints with .22 lr but I like to use sub sonic frangible. That way the bullet breaks up and can't be recovered if it passes through the varmint. Much safer than way. And subsonic means it doesn't alert the other varmints and scare them away. I can shoot whole packs of varmints.

Always shoot the rear varmint first so that the others don't scatter,
