During Overzone when a Rikker dies, the theme of "remembering her" appears. This is what Red Hood mentioned in Red Ash, as long as someone remembers you, you "don't die".
Dorothy, like Red Hood mentioned, it's fixated in the past. In the glory days. The past when Dorothy was a Goddess and was recognized as one.
For Dorothy, Pinne was the first one who recognized her as a Goddess. She saw Dorothy as a true Goddess, a beacon of hope and a reason to keep going. Eventually the rest of the squad (Scarlet, Rapunzel, Snow White) saw Dorothy as a Goddess too. At the same time they also recognized themselves as Goddesses and they knew what they had to do to keep being the beacon of hope for humanity, even if they were forgotten.
It's ironic because the event starts with a lot of nameless rikkers in the field, and at the end of the event, Goddess was nameless too.
When Pinne died, The Goddess Dorothy died
When the Ark closed, and Goddess was denied to enter the place, Dorothy died. She was fated to be Forgotten.
(We do know that Oswald did everything he could to keep their story documented, even making statues to honor them. But there has to be a reason to erase their name or why the CG wants to delete everything related to them)

TL;DR Dorothy is fixated on the past, and Pinne is the last link between the Current Dorothy, and the Goddess Dorothy. If she stops remembering her, both "die".
Obviously she can rewrite her story, she can start again. But for that, she has to let Pinne go.
