People keep bringing up Iraq as a reason not to bomb Iran.
They are simply getting the history of Iraq wrong. The sin wasn't regime change, it was nation building. No one is advocating nation building in Iran.
The people who are saying Americans will die in a war are simply opposed to intervention on principle, and not being straightforward about this. See also their hysterical screeching about World War III, as if China and Russia are chomping at the bit to blow up the world for the sake of Iranian mullahs.
The lesson of Iraq can't be that evil regimes get to exist forever no matter what. Sometimes history has to move forward, and that involves taking risks.
Also unlike Iraq, Libya, or Afghanistan, Iran has a highly educated population with many liberal instincts. Urban elites have shown themselves willing to get arrested or even die to oppose the regime. In Iraq, in contrast, the opposition to Saddam was Sunni and Shia Islamists. Again, these have nothing to do with one another.
I explain why we should pursue a policy of regime change, and how we can help ensure a positive outcome in any resulting civil war without putting American lives at risk.
Don't listen to those who want to bury their heads in the sand and think you can avoid every difficult question that history presents.
