Well you see I had a huge fuck off argument with the HR staff when I was asked to help interview for engineering roles because they were adamant that engineers need papers to prove they can do the job. I took it higher and asked my boss (Head of Operations) and the Development manager for the project team we were hiring for to back me up speaking to senior leadership that I should be able to conduct the hiring process in whatever way I see fit and that HR shouldn't have a say because they quite clearly have shit for brains and don't know what they're talking about. I won. I write the job descriptions. I write the ads. I sift the resumes and contact applicants to arrange interviews. HR only get involved in onboarding. It's the way it should be. When I take my car into a dealership I don't let the stupid pair of tits on legs tell me how much my car is worth. Why would I let them tell me what engineers I should hire?
