Latvia bans Russian state TV anchor and actor over support for Ukraine war
Latvia has indefinitely banned two prominent Russian public figures—state television anchor Yekaterina Andreeva and actor Pavel Priluchny—from entering the country, citing their support for the Kremlin's war in Ukraine.
Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže announced the decision on social media, stating the two had been added to the country's list of "undesirable persons" under its immigration law.
The move against Andreeva is particularly notable. A long-time anchor for Russia's state-run "Channel One," she has been a key face of Kremlin propaganda for decades.
Her ability to travel freely has recently come under scrutiny. An investigation by Alexei Navalny's Anti-Corruption Foundation revealed that Andreeva holds passports from both Montenegro and Honduras, which have allowed her to bypass some travel restrictions placed on Russian citizens.
The revelation prompted the Prime Minister of Montenegro, an EU candidate country, to announce a review of all "honorary citizenships" the nation has granted. The ban by Latvia, an EU and Schengen Area member, will further curtail Andreeva's ability to travel within the bloc.
