Agreed. I'm chucking my horses from spark grind into PVP, only a couple actually built with PVP intention from the start of career.

I'm in class 4 now facing whales with full MLB SSR teams, all costume unlocks etc and still winning because the ones I'm facing (always select the top option for higher rating) don't build anything decent (yet)
I'm confident I could stick around in the brackets that give higher weekly carots. I still have ALL the optimisation left to actually do, when I reach a sticking point
We'll see how it looks after next promotion again
