Yep, it changed the time people could waste on escapism from 2 hours per movie to 20+ hours per game.
The big disciplinary issue most people face is that the availability of surrogate activities makes it all too easy to postpone doing the right thing. With gaming turning mainstream, this dilemma of too many bad choices got a massive upgrade, since instead of finishing a movie, you now had entire worlds full with surrogate tasks you could accomplish in some virtual world. We went from "I'll do my homework once the TV show is over" to "Once I mined the ore, I'll have to chop some trees and plant some crops so I can explore that dungeon".
