I don't see how anyone couldn't see it, they've been teasing and X-3 for over 10 years now, even longer if you count X-2.

Square is always teasing possible sequels in their games decades in advance. Remember Square also needs to wrap up the Gack bullshit for the final part of FF7Re:Make. Shit that was teased back in DoC on the PS2.
