It's hard-core Digimon not meant for babies. The creator wanted a more realistic depiction of what owning a digimon is like. Super advance AI who were made to fight and the digital world is a shitty wasteland with no respawn after death. Wasn't season 1 and 2 referred as a TV show in Tamers? I'd rather live there if I had a digimon.
