>Current day Dragonball localization is as faithful
/v/ had an episode over Goten and Trunks using current English slang in the latest game, like calling #18 a "baddy".
All their current dubs still use the same dubisms by the by. Krillin, Tien, Spirit Bomb, King Kai, Goku's superman characterization, etc.
The only dub that tried to be faithful was Kai's for whatever reason.

It probably is.
4chan's incoming population for over a decade now has primarily been for the culture war and political stuff. That's the only thing the site is known for now, and it has been the only thing it's known for for ages.

>Or maybe Superman isn't your goto for the most powerful person in fiction in Japan?
Dude, Japan knows who Superman is. A parody of him literally appears in Dragon Ball and in Toriyama's previous work Dr. Slump. Early Kinnikuman would consistently reference him in the same breath as Ultraman.
>You also didn't watch DBZ or understood it. I didn't realize the Japanese version changed who defeated Cell.
The English version changed what was being said and the context around Gohan in that arc. It has an entire two minutes of narration about how EVERYTHING has been BUILDING UP TO THIS for Gohan, when in the Japanese that's not what was happening and the theme of that fight was in relation to Goku's misguided view of his own son.
The idea of Gohan taking up the mantle occurs at the end of the fight (until Toriyama drops it), but the dub makes the entirety of the "Z" portion sound like the Gohan story, which is why the Boo arc is uniquely negatively received among Burgers (and spics since they identified with Gohan's autism).
