Gal Guardians was like the best Classicvania experience I had in years.
So more often than not their games are good.
That said you are right that Gunvolt was a fluke. GV3 is proof of that, that if they leave the writer alone to his own devices he will have an emotional outburst and ruin the plot to the point the rest of team has been mocking him for it until now like saying next Gunvolt won’t be 4 but 2.5.
