MMOs at least have the excuse that they couldn't have planned ahead after running for decades. But Genshin doesn't have this excuse. They announced there would be 8 nations since day 1. Now we have 9, which might justify some shoddy work on how to fit it. But the rest? No excuses for doing a sloppy job. They knew they needed a map that could fit together the nations. We even know in advance what to expect from each nation, so they had half a decade to think of ways to fit them together in a way that doesn't feel unnatural.
It wouldn't have been that hard if they just released the entire world map at day 1. With the general shape of the world set in stone, you just fill it in with the details in each patch.
